Insider Threats Get Their Own Month

Learn about Insider Threat Awareness Month and the Process of mitigating insider threats.

Awareness that insider threats are every organizations weak spot is worth spreading, to that end Impulse would like to help spread the word to our customers that this month is the first annual Insider Threat Awareness Month. The event is the result of a partnership between The National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) and The National Insider Threat Task Force (NITTF) and federal agencies. The goal of the event is to educate the public about the risks and process of mitigating insider threats. A 2018 Forrester survey found that 53% of data breaches were caused by insiders. This makes the need to protect data from even those within your organization clear.

Beyond awareness, how can Impulse help with mitigating insider threats?

Impulse also does its part beyond just awareness by providing solutions that can help mitigate the insider threat risk. Those two solutions are SafeConnect NAC and SafeConnect SDP.  SDP takes a zero trust approach to cybersecurity that works to secure your resources from both users and nonusers alike. SDP is even able to protect your resources from insider threats when they’re accessed beyond the office itself as a Next Generation VPN.

Meanwhile, SafeConnect NAC can help automatically segment your network to isolate users from critical data, as needed Both NAC and SDP can help stop the lateral east-west spread of an attack. This is regardless of the attack’s origin—whether that be internal, like a trojan set up as a back door, or internal, like an employee going rogue and attacking from within.
